£1000 for this abomination of a tune? Some Crooks clearly should give up the day job. Apparently they're on a mission to save ICE engines, in the case of this engine I'd say they were on a mission to blow it up!
Just looking at the fuelling map. It is quite frankly diabolical; the car ran like a dog, hunting, smoking and stalling etc! And they sent it out saying it was done!
It was hardly drivable going from rich to lean at tick over as the revs went from 1100 rpm cell over to the 1300 cell. Why go for a VE of 40 at 1000rpm and then at 1300 it be as low as 9? Anyone with any sense of logic would know that isn’t the way to do it. As the car flicked between each block at idle it would from very lean to very rich and instead of doing it property they tried to change the ignition map to get a stable idle with similar erratic values. When the engine went lean you advanced the ignition to try and make it stable and the reverse when it was rich lol. It just make no sense that they don't even know how to do such a basic thing!
The decimal places in the map scream lazy software interpolation. just letting the program "guess" values instead of proper tuning on the dyno? Seems like it to me.
Why on earth were the values present on the fuel map so far out and so clearly just generated from interpolation?
The only correct(ish) area was at 2400 whilst under a little load, note the lack of decimal places at this RPM point at higher load points, shows they did stick it on the dyno for a couple of power runs. Why was the rest of it so bad? They simply guessed. It was a 15 to 30 minute tune in my humble opinion.
We had to go through every cell block on the dyno, using the brake to work our way up to higher RPMs. And don’t get me started on the ignition map – it was just as bad!
I won’t name the South Wales outfit responsible or the classic car but when a company running “diagnostic courses” and preaching about offering consulting to other garage business I suppose it makes sense that the only way they can make money is by selling snake oil and running naff training courses on how to use a MultiMeter lol.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this level of “work” from them either. 20 years in the game, and they still haven’t mastered the basics? I tell you what lads, stick to the naff off the shelf maps and stop pretending you're capable of doing any custom tuning.
All I can say is, keep up the good work lads, third standalone this year we've fixed that you've "tuned". I heard on the grape vine the roller shutters are down and there are next to no cars (or rather what is outside should be at a scrap yard) outside? Maybe its time to get back on the social media pushing snake oil garage consulting services? Are you better at fixing other peoples garage businesses than you are tuning I wonder......
