This one is a proper bit of history.
The Lotus Cortina wasn’t built to be a comfortable daily. It was created as a homologation car so Ford could go racing. Lotus took a standard Cortina and turned it into something completely different.
Lightweight panels
Lotus twin cam engine
Reworked suspension
Built to be driven hard
Back in the 1960s this was aimed at enthusiasts and racers. People who wanted performance on the road and the ability to take it straight onto a track or rally stage.
When new, a Lotus Cortina cost roughly around £1,100 in the early 1960s. Adjusted for inflation that’s roughly £25,000 to £30,000 in today’s money.
Now look at them.
Today these cars are mostly owned by collectors, with values typically sitting around £30,000 to £40,000 for average examples, and well over £100,000 for the best cars.
What was once a hard driven performance saloon is now a sought after classic that rarely gets used the way it was intended.
This one came in with us for a proper tune up and setup.
Cars like this are a completely different world compared to modern vehicles. No laptops, no plug in tuning. It is all about understanding the engine, carb setup, ignition timing and getting everything balanced properly.
When they are right, they are incredibly smooth, responsive and enjoyable to drive.
Always good to work on something like this and keep it running exactly how it should.
If you have a classic that is not quite right, or just want it properly set up, come down and have a chat.
